EBBR's Melody Owens is now doing professional dog training! She's a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (www.apdt.com) and hopes to become a Certified Pet Dog Trainer in the next year. She offers private obedience training for all breeds and sizes. CGC classes and evaluation are also available.

WHAT IS COVERED IN THE TRAINING SESSIONS: 

HOUSE BREAKING: Teaching you, the owner, the fast and simple way of house training your new puppy (or new adult dog too!) This is done in a single, one hour+ session. We will stay as long as needed to help you understand. 

PUPPY COURSE: For puppies 10 weeks to 4 months. Intro to commands, accustom puppy to handling & restraint by strangers (ie. vets, groomers, etc...) attention, and greeting new people and dogs and more. Includes four, one hour sessions (private) or six, one hour session for class training. 

BASIC OBEDIENCE: For dogs 4 months and older. We cover commands such as sit, down, stay, come, leave it, drop it, heel, finish. Dogs will be trained to focus under such distractions as other dogs, kids, medical equipment (ie. wheelchairs, crutches, etc...) loud noises. Upon graduation, the dog should have all the training necessary to successfully complete the AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. Includes eight, one hour training sessions.

$5 discount on CGC testing for anyone who completes any level of training. 

AREA COVERED: Anywhere in Palm Beach County and Northern Broward County. I will travel to other locations as well for a small fuel charge.

Both classes will start on Wednesday June 3, 2009 at Greenacres Freedom Park, 2400 Pinehurst Dr WPB, FL 33413

STAR PUPPY CLASS: 6 WEEKS, 6:00-7:00 pm - $65
-Puppies 10 weeks to 4 months allowed
-Must have had a minimum two puppy vaccines & dewormings, proof required.
-Loose leash walking
-House/crate training
-Proper socialization & greeting with other dogs & people
-Watch me (attention) command
-Accepting restraint by strangers (important for vet visits, groomers, etc...)
-AKC Star Puppy Certification at the end of the class!
-Discount on Basic Obedience course enrollment

The STAR puppy class is given to new puppy owners to help their canine companion get the best start in life with proper socialization and techniques to raising a well behaved dog. Only positive (R+) techniques are used in the classes. No force or harsh maneuvers are used to train...dogs are our friends! We cover subjects like proper greeting for both dogs and people, being comfortable when restrained by strangers (this is very important for puppies during vet visits and those that will frequently need to be groomed,) we will also start some basic commands like watch me, loose lead walking, and “off” (as in, not jumping on people,) and more!

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN - BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASS: 8 WEEKS, 7:00-8:00 pm - $85
-All dogs 4 months of age and older.
-Must have all vaccines, including rabies, DHLPP & bordetella.
-No dogs the first week, introduce clicker training
-Includes a clicker and bag of healthy training treats
-Positive reinforcement (R+) training techniques only used
-Basic commands: sit, down, stay, come, leave it, heel and more!
-Your dog will be ready to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test at the end of the class!

This basic obedience course is for dogs that are ready to learn how to become a respectable member of society. The dogs will learn all the basic commands needed to know how to behave while in public, as well as in the home. Only positive techniques are used in the classes, so no forceful or harsh techniques on our canine buddies. The class will end with the AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluation.

About the trainer: Melody has been training dogs for 5 years. Most of her training experience was volunteering her services to various rescues to help get their dogs adopted into loving families. Melody is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and is an AKC certified Canine Good Citizen & STAR Puppy evaluator. She's a firm believer in positive reinforcement training techniques, and not correction based training. The proceeds of the training classes will help to fund Melody's non-profit dog rescue organization (www.ebbrrfl.org), so she can help to save more lives from euthanasia in local shelters. Melody is currently the Dog Obedience Instructor for Santaluces HS Community Education Program.
