The "RARE" Blue Pit Bull. The color that so many people are breeding specifically for that record numbers of this "rare" color are ending up in shelters across the country. The color "blue" (or gray, technically) is a dilute of black. It is seen quite frequently in the pit bull breed and is not a "rare" color, although backyard breeders & puppy peddlers will try to convince you otherwise.
Thousands of backyard breeders (READ: irresponsible people who do not health test, show, or work their dogs - just breed because "they're cute and nice" or "would make pretty puppies" and sell to anyone who has the cash) have started kennels and base their breedings on the color (and/or size) alone. This makes for many unhealthy dogs being produced and in turn dumped in local shelters after being sold to someone who shouldn't own ANY dog, let alone a pit bull.
Below are all pictures of blue dogs that have turned up in shelters. Some dogs were destroyed because no one wanted them. Others were lucky enough to find rescuers and adopted into loving homes.

With this color often comes serious problems. Allergies and mange are quite common.
